Planning a round the world trip

OK so I've managed to sort of a year off my job - I thought that was the big job done, but I realise going round the world isn't going to be as easy as I thought...

There's a big world out their and I want to see it all, unfortunately I can't help but feel a year isn't enough - not really.

Currently the plan stands that we fly out the UK at the beginning of August into New York - enjoy it a while then jump in a camper van and go north through Boston and into Canada - through Quebec and Montreal, eventually getting to Detroit and Chicago. Good start I think? We need to eventually end up in Seattle for the end of August for PAX Prime and to meet up with friends.

I've so far found the website www.roadtripusa.com which suggests some routes across the states. I want to see the Rockies on the way, but there's a lot of road to cover inbetween and I don't really know what to see along the way...
